My Life in Purgatory by Terry Osterhout

About Us:

Purgatory Lounge is my blog for rants and reviews, and to celebrate art, music, movies and photography.

I was a child of the 70's and was born and raised in the shadowy forests of Northern Michigan where I spent the cold months absorbed in comic books, horror movies, my mother's fashion magazines and my dad's photography magazines (inspiring my love of artistic nudes at an early age.)

Upon graduating from High School and realizing that I couldn't afford college and knowing if I remained in Northern Michigan I would stay the nobody everyone thought I was, I became a vagabond explorer, traveling by bus all over America for several years.

After years of back and forth between California and Michigan working in video stores and watching 4 or 5 movies a night for many years, I moved to New York City and slaved as a video store manager while writing scripts, reviewing movies online, acting, and working on experimental digital video films.

At heart, I am a New Yorker but I grew up in Northern Michigan and bounce between coasts. Currently on an extended vacation of sorts, living a more low key life with my wife, Model & Writer Liz La Point and our son back in Northern Michigan where I am managing an independent movie theater.

Weaned on comic books, 70’s horror and sci-fi, noir and old serials, women’s fashion magazines and photo magazines but grew out of wanting to tell super-hero stories to wanting to make movies.

The digital video explosion of the 90’s prompted me to buy an editing system and a couple of DV cameras and making digital video movies became my passion.

Eventually this fan of photography became a photographer and I have spent the past several years shooting my favorite subjects, nature and women. I don’t believe in censorship in art and I don’t like having to restrain myself from shooting something I find beautiful if it might offend someone.

I am available for headshots, model portfolio building, family portraits but I prefer to do cinematic and conceptual images.

Constantly planning and working on short films and experimental projects and looking for actors and production people who want to make low budget art. (Think noir, gritty crime fiction, European horror, avant garde experimental stuff…)

I spent years photographing models for books, fine art prints and my portfolio, but now I work almost exclusively with my muse, model Liz La Point.
